day 12, for the Bewilder Issue of The Hopper

I am excited to have an essay published in the Bewilder issue of The Hopper.  My essay is about a very hot day during a cross country family road trip when we went searching for a place to swim.  It's an essay about growth, and environmentalism, and the family stew of competing needs and goals.  What happened that day was in no way what we were looking for, we did not even get to swim, but it is a day whose stories keep getting told and written about in our family more than most others from that trip.

The Bewilder issue is beautiful, including the cover art, and Jenna, the editor, was wonderful to work with.  I have loved the focus and style of the first three issues and am looking forward to continuing to work my way through this issue's contributions.  Today, all three of our kids participated in the Global Climate Strike in our city, and I could not be happier about this.  Having an essay published in an environmental literary magazine about my family's adventures and mishaps in natural places and their imperfectly developing relationship with protection and care for the earth seems just about right.
